We are proud to support the work of charities and community organisations around the world. We focus on causes that reflect our values and heritage, such as protecting the British countryside; supporting young people; and helping communities in need or affected by natural disasters.

Our support includes product donations and financial assistance, as well as matching donations made by our employees. These are some recent examples:

Protecting the British countryside

The Prince’s Countryside Fund

We support the Prince’s Countryside Fund which helps people and organisations that care for the British countryside, working to secure a sustainable future for rural communities. Our recent support has involved the donation of boots to support those affected by flooding in the UK.

Supporting young people

The Art Room

We support this innovative organisation in Scotland that uses art as therapy to help children and young people to raise their self-esteem, confidence and independence.

Child Mind Institute

Hunter is proud to be a national partner of Speak Up for Kids, a public education campaign in the US that brings attention to childhood mental health and works to break down barriers of stigma and misinformation that prevent families from getting early access to treatment.

Assisting communities in need.

Plan UK

We matched staff donations to PLAN UK’s disaster relief efforts for communities in the Philippines affected by Typhoon Haiyan.

Case Study

Case study: Hunter boots make a difference in Timor-Leste

Case study: Hunter boots make a difference in Timor-Leste

Timor-Leste, also known as East Timor, is a small tropical country which shares a border with Indonesia. Timor is rich in natural beauty and culture but, with almost 40% of the population living below the international poverty line, it is also one of the poorest countries in Asia. With the country’s farming infrastructure badly damaged during its recent struggle for independence, Timor faces a challenge to feed its population of 1 million people and the government has put self-sufficiency in food production at the top of its agenda.

Since 2012, we’ve partnered with one of our rubber footwear suppliers in neighbouring Indonesia to donate pairs of Hunter boots to low-income farmers in rural East Timor. A pair of quality boots can make a big difference to the everyday lives of these farmers, particularly in remote areas and during the rainy season where roads, tracks and villages turn to mud. Boots allow them to keep working on their farms while greatly reducing the risk of injury and preventing the spread of water-borne diseases.

So far we have donated over 22,000 pairs of boots to farmers and those affected by natural disasters through organisations such as Seeds of Life, Movimento Cooperative Economica-Agricola, Red Cross Timor-Leste and the Alola Foundation.

“During the wet season many roads, tracks and villages in Timor-Leste become muddy quagmires. Without appropriate footwear it is difficult for Timorese farmers to tend their fields and they are more susceptible to foot and leg injuries, infection and disease. Having a pair of quality gumboots can make a great difference in the day-to-day life of a Timorese farmer.”
