One of the greatest events in the British sporting calendar, 2 April 2017 saw Oxford University Men’s Boat Club and Cambridge University Women’s Boat Club row to victory on the River Thames, London.
Sunshine prevailed and crowds cheered on the banks of the Tideway as all four crews made their way along the demanding four-mile course.
The Cambridge Women’s crew, comprised of eight of the university’s finest athletes, including Hunter’s Everyday Pioneer Claire Lambe, made a strong start, outperforming their Oxford rivals to win with an impressive eleven length win and a time of 18 minutes 33 seconds. “It wasn’t just about crossing the line; it was about getting a real victory,” commented CUWBC’s Ashton Brown after the gruelling race.
Oxford’s oarsmen, led by Hunter’s Everyday Pioneer Vassilis Ragoussis in the stroke seat, crossed the finish line with a time of 16 minutes and 59 seconds, beating Cambridge to secure their 80th victory in the men’s race.
As an official partner of the Boat Races, Hunter would like to congratulate all four crews participating in this year’s event.
Hunter Field is proud to provide boots for all crews that not only see them through the gruelling winter training regimes but also serve to protect them from the Tideway, the section of the River Thames in London on which the races take place.
